Das Weingut
Directly opposite the manor house in Pünderich on the other bank of the Moselle is the majority of the Busch family's vineyards in the Marienburg location. Clemens and Rita Busch have been cultivating their vineyards according to strict organic viticulture criteria since 1986. The son Johannes now supports his parents in the family business and is responsible for implementing the biodynamic aspects.
Die Weinbereitung
Winemaking at Clemens Busch begins in the vineyard and continues with care in the cellar. Careful grape processing, long maceration times, exclusively spontaneous fermentation, extended pressing times at low pressure as well as clarification only through sedimentation and the avoidance of any fining agents guarantee unadulterated, authentic terroir wines. Without the addition of pure yeasts, the musts ferment using the natural yeasts from the vineyard, and this process can take up to ten months. The aging takes place primarily in the traditional barrels of the Mosel, oak barrels with a volume of around 1000 liters. The long lees storage gives the wines the necessary complexity and stability.
Die Lagen
The cultivated vineyard area of around 18 hectares is largely concentrated in the Pündericher Marienburg location, which covers almost the entire slope on the opposite bank of the river from Pünderich. This location extends from south to southeast and was formed from several small individual vineyards before the wine legislation of 1970. In order to highlight the specific differences within the Marienburg location, Clemens Busch vinifies the plots separately and bottles the wines under the former plot names, such as Fahrlay, Falkenlay, Raffes or Rothenpfad. These individual vineyards produce wines with unique characteristics and great aging potential. The different slate soils (blue, gray and red slate) as well as the special microclimates are clearly expressed in the wine.
