The Wachenheimer Odinstal lies at an altitude of up to 350m and is therefore the highest individual location in the Mittelhaardt. The resulting slightly cooler temperatures allow the grapes to ripen on a low flame. This creates very delicate, subtle aromas. The vineyards have been farmed organically since the early 1990s and biodynamically since 2006. Johann Ludwig Wolf, mayor of Wachenheim, built the Odinstal winery at the beginning of the 19th century.
Die Böden
The Hensel family acquired the winery in 1998 and, together with the congenial manager Andreas Schumann, have since then uncompromisingly focused on quality and authenticity. The geological faults caused by the volcanic eruption at Pechsteinkopf have led to the soil changing from mineral-rich basalt to red sandstone, Muschelkalk and Keuper in a very small area.
