The Nikolaihof is the oldest winery in Austria, whose history goes back to 63 AD. suffices. After secularization at the end of the 19th century, the company became the property of the Saahs family, and in 2005 Nikolaus Saahs took over management. As a founding member of the Demeter Federation Austria, the Saahs family has been working biodynamically since 1971. Since then it has been nettle manure, valerian drops, horsetail tea and specially prepared preparations instead of herbicides, pesticides or fungicides.
The vineyards are bursting with life. This creates spring games with tension and backbone, coupled with finesse and structure. Even after decades of maturity and storage, the Smaragd wines from Nikolaihof still enjoy incredible vitality: Veltliner and Rieslings with elegance and mineral depth. Some special wines are stored on the lees in large barrels for up to 20 years until they are bottled.
